Core of a Leader

Core of a Leader sought a new marketing website with a clean, minimal design and calendar integration.

After 20 years in the tech industry, founder Daisy Spilker decided to follow her heart and use her skills, experience, and education to help people and organizations become better versions of themselves.

Core of a Leader provides leadership coaching and organizational consulting. Their programs are built on the belief that we all have the capacity to lead. Their mission is to unlock leadership for everyone through authenticity and creativity.

Accurately capturing a brand’s values is important in any design project, but even more so for coaching businesses. Potential customers are more sensitive to misalignment between marketing collateral and brand values than for most other types of businesses. We worked with Core of a Leader to design a website that visually articulated the underlying beliefs, themes, and concepts of the brand.

Visual Design

Instrumental to Core of a Leader’s founding was a painting, ‘The Core’, by Daisy Spilker. Given its important place at the heart of the venture, we decided to pull the painting out into the website. We derived the color palette from the colors in the painting. The spacing, balance, and shapes in the user interface were designed to complement the artwork. The overall effect is a centered place for visitors to explore the content without becoming overloaded with animations and distracting elements.

User Experience (UX) Considerations

Coaching websites have more written content on average than sites in other verticals. Because of that, we made sure the design had good UX for reading long-form content. Comfortable line lengths, good color contrast ratios, and fluid typography that scales based on screen size are some of the techniques we used to maximize reading comfort.

WordPress Theme

Websites for new ventures bring their own set of challenges. Chief among those is that often the client needs to add and update content themselves. This can easily lead to a website that looks inconsistent and drifts further off brand over time. To combat visual drift, we developed a full-site editing theme for Core of a Leader’s WordPress site.

WordPress’ full-site editing themes let us configure tailored content management experiences for an affordable price. This lets clients add content while keeping colors, fonts, spacing tokens, and user interface (UI) components consistent.
